Content Cleaning & Packout After Water Damage in Kimberling City, MO

Jul 18, 2023

When it comes to dealing with water damage, there can be many unexpected twists and turns that the average homeowners may not be able to handle on their own. Not only can homes end up with harmful mold growth, but the water can also put the homeowner at risk for injury. It’s truly impossible to predict exactly what could go wrong, so it’s always best to leave any water damage or mold remediation projects in the hands of trained professionals.

Fortunately, customers don’t have to look far to find a team trained in water damage restoration, mold remediation, and
content cleaning. Kimberling City residents have trusted ABC Environmental Contracting with all of their restoration needs for years. The contractors’ popularity comes from their willingness to go the extra mile for every customer, and this particular case study goes to show it.

Keep reading to learn more about how the contractors handled a simple mold remediation and content cleaning job that had turned into a dangerous situation for the homeowner.

The Initial Problem and Extent of Damage

When ABC Environmental Contracting was contacted back in March, they learned that a Kimberling City homeowner had an extensive mold problem. The mold growth occurred after a water loss that was not addressed quickly. Instead, the water sat for a considerable length of time, and eventually, the mold growth became unsuitable for the homeowner to remain in the house.

The mold growth actually ended up requiring a protocol from a hygienist. From there, it was determined that the entire home would have to be packed out so that the necessary repairs could take place.

The Emergency That Occurred During Packout

ABC Environmental Contracting started the job with remediation and packing. They worked to get all of the valuables in the home packed safely into boxes so that they could be moved to the facility for storage and cleaning, if necessary.

Unfortunately, while the homeowner was waiting for the contractors to finish moving the contents, he had a bad fall. The customer ended up hitting his head so hard that he suffered from temporary amnesia, but he was able to call the contractors to see what was going on.

Luckily for him, the mold remediation contractors acted quickly to call 911 so that paramedics could be dispatched to the house. While one contractor remained on the line with the paramedics, the other stayed on the phone with the homeowner until they arrived. The homeowner ended up having to go to the hospital and was admitted for several weeks to heal a broken vertebra.

How ABC Environmental Contracting Handled the Content Cleaning

Though this project ended up being different from anything the contractors had ever had to handle before, they still were able to get the job done. They simply took a brief pause on the work and resumed the content pack out after the homeowner was released from the hospital and healthy enough to meet them.

Picked up the Content

As soon as the contractors got the call to come pick up the items, they returned to the property, ready to work. Though most of the items had already been packed, they continued to load up anything that was left and took every box to the facility. From there, all of the boxes would be stored until they were ready for cleaning.

Cleaned the Content

The content cleaning process for this job was particularly tedious due to the nature of the items. The customer had several very large and delicate model ships. The contractors also had to carefully restore old memorability, including Captains’ uniforms and navigational tools.

Not only were these items a challenge due to their fragility, but they also were very valuable. Thanks to the contractors' state-of-the-art tools, they were able to safely and effectively clean all of the belongings.

Move the Items Back into the House

Finally, the contractors had to leave the cleaned items in their secure storage facility. The rebuild process is still being completed, but once all of that is wrapped up, the professionals will carefully move all of the precious valuables back to the home. The crews will work carefully to make sure that every item is returned to its original place.
